Written by Sylvia Plath in 1962, “Lady Lazarus” is a poem about one woman’s descent into madness, but also a testament to her power. In this modern interpretation of the poem, the narrative is transported to modern day Los Angeles – a city that is the embodiment of fame, excess, and unfulfilled dreams. Shot at the iconic ACE hotel in downtown LA, the building becomes a character in her madness. Who or what is she waiting for? With this short film, I wanted to show the timelessness of this poem and also challenge people’s long-held perceptions of it.
